This property is surely among the best wines in Sauternes & Barsac

Lafaurie Peyraguey

Both hotel and restaurant Lalique opened in May 2018 at Lafaurie Peyraguey. I visited this new complex in April 2019 and I have to say that it absolutely is worth spending a day or two. The restaurant there with Alcasian cook, Jerome Schilling, offers immaculately prepared food with great class and finesse. With great wines made at the property, it's just a fabulous experience!!

2019 LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY (barrel sample) 96-97p

Tasted in June 2020. 93% Semillon + 7% Sauvignon Blanc. Very deep and intense nose of sweet pineapple, grapefruit and orange peel. Very concentrated and powerful on the palate yet with flair and grace. Striking acidity and sweetness. Sophisticated and with mega-long heather honey finish. Exceptional stuff.

2018 LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY (barrel sample) 96p

Tasted twice - last time in April 2019. Consistent notes. Despite some problems with the weather in 2018, the quality of the wine produced is close to 2017. Freshness and finesse, refined and creamy, acacia honey, fine acidity and much focus.

2017 LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY (barrel sample) 96p

Awesome performance from this property. Excellent acidity and sweetness, intense and concentrated, rich and remarkably complex. Best vintage here since 2010! Tasted in April 2018.

It showed great intensity, complexity, sweetness, concentration and length here. Fine acidity. Very complex and refined. Splendid effort. Tasted twice - last time in April 2019 - consistent notes.

Flavours of red grapefruit, sweet mandarines and oranges, discrete but fine acidity, well-constructed, refined with a long finish. Very pretty wine. Tasted twice - last time in April 2019 - consistent notes.

2014 LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY (barrel sample) 95p

Full of botrytised flavours like orange and mandarines, concentrated with excellent acidity, balance and honeyed finish. Very representative for the vintage. Tasted in March 2015.

Very intense and aromatic, botrytised flavours in numbers, honey melon, great complexity and a fine sweet finish. Great acidity to support sweetness. Excellent effort for the vintage. Tasted twice - last time in April 2019 - consistent notes.

2012 LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY (barrel sample) 90p

Significantly lighter than recent vintages with less intensity of botrytised flavour, sweetness and acidity. It displayed elegance, finesse and supple body. Tasted in April 2013.

2011 LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY (barrel sample) 94+p

This wine had plenty of botrytised flavours like pineapple, lemon peel and grapefruit, excellent acidity, strong structure, superb balance and long honeyed finish. Fabulous wine. Tasted in April 2012.

2010 LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY (barrel sample) 95-96p

This wine had an extremely intense nose of grapefruit, acacia honey and apricot, excellent acidity and balance, great depth, lot of sweetness and long, long lingering aftertaste. Simply stunning wine. Tasted in April 2011.

Elegance and finesse, great acidity, balance and sweetness, aromatic and well-knitted. Really splendid wine. Tasted twice - last time in March 2014. Consistent notes.

2008 LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY (barrel sample) 90-93p

This wine showed spicy flavours, oak, power and a strong backbone and long aftertaste. One to watch in the future. Tasted in March 2009.

2007 LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY (barrel sample) 90-91p

Pretty good wine, but seemed a bit light. I'm convinced, however, that it will take on more weight when in the bottle. Tasted in April 2008.

2006 LAFAURIE PEYRAGUEY (barrel sample) 92p

Beautiful and powerful botrytised flavours of aromatic pineapple, pear and apricots on the nose and palate. Very stylish and delicious wine. Tasted in March 2007.

This is one of the most reliable properties in the district, who mix power and elegance in a beautiful way. It seemed to follow in 2001 vintage's tracks with excellently botrytised fruit flavours of apricots, peaches, oranges/orange peel, lusciousness, refinement, super elegance and exquisite balance. Gorgeous wine for keeping in the next 15-20 years. Tasted three times - last time in March 2014. Consistent notes.

I have actually expected a more energetic wine with more concentration than one tasted at the day. Even if it has excellent noble rot, lusciousness, super elegance and fine balance, this wine seems however to be a bit flat and lacks some freshness, and shows slightly under the level of this property's capacity. Maybe this wine just needs some more time in the bottle. Have to retaste it soon. One to lay down for 10-15 years horizontally. Tasted in March 2006

What a thrilling botrytised flavours, elegance and finesse. Incredibly rich, dense and long on the palate. A beautiful example of this vintage's potential. Tasted twice - last time in March 2008. Consistent notes.

Incredibly stylish and classy wine. Possesses well-integrated botrytis and deliciously sweet fruit. Splendid structure and length on the palate. It's a wine of high quality. Tasted in September 2004.

Very intense flavours of acacia, peach and orange peel on the nose. Tastes like candy, dense, classic with many, many nuances. Very intelligent wine. Great balance and finish. A delicacy of big calibre. Tasted twice - last time in March 2008. Consistent notes.

More alcohol feel here than in 2001, 1997, 1907 and 1906. More powerful than usual with botrytised flavours of sweet/candied pineapple, apricot and brown sugar. Very well balanced, deep and very honeyed aftertaste. Splendid effort. Tasted in March 2008.

Orange peel, brown sugar, a perfect match between acidity and sweetness, the aroma of heather honey. Impressive wine. 93p. Tasted in March 2014.

Simply magnificent wine giving aromas of mango and acacia honey and having great acidity. Well-preserved with beautiful balance, enchanting flavours, attraction and finesse. Still quite fresh. Stunning 100+ years old wine. Tasted in March 2008.

One of the greatest vintages ever in Sauternes & Barsac. This wine is almost as stunning as 1907 but seems to be more advanced in age with flavours of creme brulée. It's beauty anyway. Tasted in March 2008.

Fantastic double blast from the past - tasted in March 2008
